
Nilambur located on the banks of the Chaliyar river is a charming little town in the Malappuram District of Kerala. The town is 70 kms from Kozhikkode and is easly accessed by air, rail and road. Ooty and Mysore are close to Nilambur. The Adyanpara waterfall is very close to the town.
Nilambur is home to the oldest teak plantation in the world, raised 150 years ago in Canoli’s Plot(named after H.V.Canoli,Governor) of Malabar during the British rule. The Nilambur teak preserve features the world’s biggest teak tree. Four kms from Nilmabur town is the world’s first teak museum, displaying the historical ,cultural and aesthetic aspects of teak. Nilambur is also known for its Bamboos. The word’ Nilambur’ means home of nilimba. (sanskrit for ‘Bamboo’) Nilmabur is fast emerging as an important tourist destination for both domestic and international travellers. Now Nilambur is going to become Muncipality.
